2005, the year of "The Big Change" 2005 was a massive redesign for the Haunt @ boo. We spent a lot of time and a little bit of cash completely updating and renovating almost every aspect of the haunt this year. Thanks to an amazing garbage pick find in early August, we ended up with an ENORMOUS amount of sheet styrofoam. This became the basis for our major graveyard expansion. We spent literally a few good weeks making and painting tombstones for the haunt. We also renovated our electric chair for the 2005 season. We added some wires, a head piece, some tubing, and attacked it with a can of stain, some varnish, and a blowtorch. We added a 12v automotive horn and a fake back rest to the electric chair, the premise being we would invite our visitors to "have a seat" and upon sitting back, they'd get a loud horn blast just above their heads. By the end of the night, we decided that the electric chair horn was a really annoying idea and decided not to bring it back for 2006. In addition to the graveyard expansion, we added our good friend The NoNo Ghost, who would become a permanent resident, being negative all over the graveyard for years to come. The Fountain of blood, which was always such a frustration from previous years, got a redesign and an overhaul this year as well, it was replastered, repainted, and a second tier was added, along with a fountain head purchased from eBay. Our Toe-Pincher coffin got a repaint in a beautiful gloss piano black color, our occupant for that year, a blow-mold blucky that had been with the haunt since 2000 was corpsefied with copious amounts of great-stuff foam and paint and made to look like a burn victim. 2005 was also our first year experimenting with fog chilling. This year, in addition to chilled fog rolling across the graveyard, there was dry ice in the fountain of blood and 2 other fog machines. In total 2400 watts of fog rolling across our front yard. It was almost impossible to see at some points. In summation,2005 was a rousing success for the haunt, the redesigned props really brought the scares up a notch and kept our brains working well after it was over to see what we could do for the next year. |
